Aichi Target 14:By 2020, ecosystems that provide essential services, including services related to water, and contribute to health, livelihoods and well-being, are restored and safeguarded, taking into account the needs of women, indigenous and local communities, and the poor and vulnerable
The selection of this national target is based on its focus on restoring and safeguarding critical ecosystem services providing food, fibre, medicines, fresh water, crop pollination, pollution control that are vital to sustainable livelihoods and natural disaster prevention. The existing national plans and targets do not focus on the needs and contributions of the vulnerable poor, especially women and local communities. Hence the resultant effects are increasing losses of ecosystems services with infrequent support for water security, safe fisheries habitat, pollination, carbon sequestration, pollution abatement, tourism, and disaster risk reduction.
