Aichi Target 15:By 2020, ecosystem resilience and the contribution of biodiversity to carbon stocks has been enhanced, through conservation and restoration, including restoration of at least 15% of degraded ecosystems, thereby contributing to climate change mitigation and adaptation and to combating desertification
The selection of this national target aims to strengthen climate resilience and carbon sequestration through ecosystem restoration. Ecosystem restoration is an effective measure that can be taken to reverse habitat loss, fragmentation and degradation, and improve climate resilience. Challenges for improving resilience require availability of adequate finance, founding of nationally determined commitments, taking measurable actions and mapping of carbon stocks and areas for the prevention of climate-related drought, flood, wild fire outbreaks and species adaptation to climate.
