Aichi Target 9: By 2020, invasive alien species and pathways are identified and prioritized, priority species are controlled or eradicated, and measures are in place to manage pathways to prevent their introduction and establishment
The adoption of the Aichi Target 9 as a national target focuses on the reduction the threats of invasive alien species (IAS) to biodiversity and ecosystems. Given the exposure of the country to cyclical droughts and overgrazing of pastures throughout 1984-2018 multiplied the IAS in Sudan. The IAS competes with native plant species replacing them and therefore deprives livestock from accessing their palatable food. IAS charges a heavy cost on the society and the economy. The applications of the target encourage taking steps to raise awareness about IAS impacts, and take actions to prevent their spread and to mitigate their impacts.
